WLAF’s Jake Miller spoke with Coach O to preview tonight’s scrimmage and the upcoming season

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Cougar fans will have one last opportunity to watch the Campbell High football team at home for nearly a month. The Orange-and-Blue welcome in the Panthers of Barbourville, Kentucky, for a preseason scrimmage.
This is the second of three scrimmages that Coach Taylor Ownbey’s Cougars will participate in before the opening regular contest on August 22 at Lenoir City.
Campbell faced off against the Seymour Eagles last week, and it was not the outing the Orange-and-Blue were wanting. The Cougars fell 24-0 to Seymour. However, this gave Coach O and the staff things to watch on film, fix, and improve.
WLAF’s Jake Miller caught up with Coach O ahead of tonight’s game. “You know. I thought we did a good job with lining up, the flow of the game, and little things here and there,†Coach Ownbey said.
Ownbey was the defensive coordinator For Campbell County last year, a team that ran a 3-4 defense. That formation has been carried over to this season.
“I just feel like we can adjust to any formation the offense gives us with the 3-4. Half of the defense is lining up, and we seemed to do a good job with that,†Coach O mentioned.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Orange-and-Blue will run a spread offensive. “(In the Seymour scrimmage), We kept it pretty vanilla. However, we plan to open it up more for this scrimmage. We’ve got a game plan that we hope to follow.â€
Miller brought up a very good point. “Up here (Reynolds Field), you have really good home field advantage. However, you’ve got three straight road games to start off with the year. How do you keep the morale up with the young team?â€
Coach Ownbey replied, “Yeah I’d probably rather have that at the end of the season, but it’s a good test for our young guys.”
Kickoff for the Campbell-Knox Central (Kentucky) scrimmage is tonight at six at John T. “Jack” Reynolds Field.
Campbell’s first game where the score counts to its record is on August 22 at Lenoir City at 7pm. For their 15th straight season, Les Martin and Brent Allen will bring you the coverage of Cougar Football over the WLAF Doyle’s Tire Sports Network. The network spans ten WLAF media platforms.
