JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- Charles Wilson, a heating and air repairman accused of swindling area homeowners out of more than $17,000, has pleaded guilty.
Monday, in criminal court, Wilson was the last case on the docket as he confessed his guilt.
Having been charged with four counts of being a home improvement provider who failed to refund money and two counts of financial exploitation of a vulnerable or elderly person, Wilson didn’t dispute his crimes.
Standing shackled in an orange jail jumpsuit, the 51-year-old, listened as Eighth Judicial District Assistant General Attorney Andi Bridges listed his litany of crimes.
From April 2022 to March 2023, Wilson conned three homeowners out of just over $17,000 by promising to repair or replace their heating and air units with each paying the money upfront. Wilson took their money but never did the work, according to court records. CLICK HERE for related story.
Wilson was arrested for these crimes in late May 2023. He made bond within hours only to drive to Knoxville and perpetrate the same scheme on another homeowner. Last month, that homeowner testified at Wilson’s bond revocation hearing. CLICK HERE for related story.
Following that hearing, Wilson has been in jail after his bond was revoked.
However, his $50,000 bond was reinstated yesterday after his brief hearing.
The plea was taken under advisement by Eighth Judicial District Criminal Court Judge Zach Walden.
Wilson’s sentencing date is set for March 25.
The expectation is Wilson will make full restitution to his victims by that day with the rest of his consequences being handed down at that hearing.
