Wilma Ruth Lindsay, age 86 of Pinecrest Community, passed away early Tuesday Morning, November 19, 2024, at Tennova North Hospital.

She was a Christian and a long-time member of Indian Creek Baptist Church. Wilma enjoyed singing alto in the choir and working with the young people.

 Wilma was a graduate of Jacksboro High School. She enjoyed reading, knitting, watching football, coloring, and talking to her relatives and friends on the phone, she knitted items for family and friends, like scarves and hats for the coat drive and knitted blankets and hats for the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. She received great joy in this. She kept busy knitting baby blankets and hats. Wilma also liked to travel with her sisters, she loved hats, horses, and dolls.

Wilma worked at The Carriage House in Xenia, Ohio as a waitress and as a shipping and receiving clerk at Hoover and Allison in Xenia, Ohio. After moving back home she worked for Lindsay’s Furniture and Appliances.

She was born in Sand Gap, Kentucky on July 18, 1938, to Clyde and Ruth (Shown) Lindsay who precedes her in death. Wilma is also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Betty Jo (Lindsay) and Ernest Daugherty and her nephew Steve Daugherty.

Wilma is survived by her sister Janet Lindsay and boyfriend Rick Claiborne; niece Cheryl (Gil) Woods; nephew Mark (Kim) Daugherty; ones she considered as brothers Buddy, Eddie, and Ronnie Sharp; a combination of 36 great, great-great, and  great- great-great  nieces and nephews; lots and lots of very special cousins that were more like brothers and sisters ; special friends Georgette Woodson of Ohio and other friends; a special thanks to Wanda Phillips and Ralph Claiborne for being Wilma’s phone buddies; and several other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 12:00-2:30 PM on Saturday, November 23, 2024, in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral with the funeral service to follow at 2:30 PM with Rev. Jim Mullins officiating. Interment to follow the funeral service at Indian Creek Cemetery.
