As the sun set and the credits rolled on his favorite Lord of the Rings movie, William M. Young age 69 of Jacksboro, passed into the Undying Lands surrounded by those who loved him best on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
Along with being a J.R.R. Tolkien fan, he enjoyed playing a number of stringed instruments and was a member of the gospel bluegrass group “Crossroads”.
He worked as a nurse for over 20 years. He was an excellent baker and reigning Pork of July BBQ Cookoff Grand Champion.
In all kinds of weather, you would find him in his rocking chair on the front porch watching Mystery Science Theatre 3000 with his sweetheart Phyllis. He loved taking walks in the park with his tattoo twin Katie or spending time with his best good grand girl Calliope. He was a Christian who loved the Lord and his family.
William is preceded in death by his father, Bill Young; his mother, Nancy Massey Young Campbell; and his stepfather, George F. Campbell.
He is survived by his sweetheart of 50 years, Phyllis Joy Young; his daughter Leandra Joy Young-Lutz and her husband, Zachary M. Young-Lutz; granddaughter, Calliope S. Young-Lutz; his daughter, Katie Michelle Young and her partner Jake Hawkins; several family in-laws and outlaws, his grand dogs, Zelda and Arino and all the rest, you know who you are.
The family would like to say “Thank You” to the wonderful nurses and PT from Amedisys Healthcare and the nurses from UT Hospice. Everyone was so caring and compassionate.
At William’s final request, he will become part of research at the University of Tennessee Forensic Anthropology Center. His “afterparty” will be held “later on”.
He told his wife that he was going to miss making people smile. We hope that his obituary and memory will do so.
The family has entrusted the care of William M. Young to Martin Wilson Funeral Home “Where Families Matter Most.”
