CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN. (WLAF)- Retired educator Bob Walden has announced his candidacy for School Board in the 5th District. Mr. Walden has served as an administrator most recently at LaFollette Elementary, as well as Wynn Elementary, White Oak Elementary, Jellico Elementary, Jellico High School, LaFollette Middle School, Campbell County Alternative School, and Campbell County High School.
“For the last 23 years, the parents of Campbell County have trusted me with their children,†Walden said. “Now I’m asking the people of the 5th District to trust me with their vote. I know schools, and I will use that knowledge to ensure that Campbell County delivers great schools and a quality education for families in every community.â€
Before serving as a principal, Mr. Walden taught Criminal Justice at Jellico High School and Campbell County High School after his first career in law enforcement. Mr. Walden is married to Pam Walden, also a retired educator. They have one son, Zack, who is a product of Campbell County Public Schools.
When asked to describe his priorities as a school leader, Walden said, “Students must be safe at school, and schools must present a welcoming environment that promotes a positive culture of learning. Those have been my priorities in every school I’ve led.â€
Walden, as a former county commissioner and small-business owner, understands the budget process and opposes any efforts to consolidate or close schools. “Our schools are more than a place for learning. They are the centerpiece of our communities. Closing schools hurts children, teachers, and the communities they serve.â€
Walden has an associate and bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from East Tennessee State University, and a Master’s and Ed.S. in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Tech University. He is active in his local church and is an avid Harley Davidson rider.
