JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – To quickly give you a snap shot of the first day of spring football practice , it can be described as Fundamentals101.

WLAF’s Charlie Hutson shares his photo gallery HERE of Tuesday’s first practice.

Here’s a lot of what you’ll see with the new-look offense, wing backs, tight end and fullback comprising a power offense.

New Campbell Football Coach Mark Pemberton and staff were teaching the quarterbacks how to place their hands under center, running backs ball security along with how to control their balance, to wide receivers how to catch the ball. Let’s not forget the centers on how to place the ball in the quarterbacks’ hands when snapping.

Also on the day’s agenda was how to run block with the guards, tackles and tight ends. Each of these scenarios was happening simultaneously on different parts of the field in their respective groups and completely separate from one another.

Units split into their respective groups on Tuesday’s first day of spring practice.

Coach Pemberton called all the groups together to practice how he wants them to huddle, yes, that’s right, how to huddle, as well as hurrying to the line of scrimmage when you break the huddle. You guessed it.  Not one single offensive play was executed as a whole offensive unit.  It was poetry in motion how you could practice all separate groups then bring them all together and teach them how they will run an offensive play.

Coach Pemberton had a certain tone to his voice that demanded perfection, although he will tell you there is no such thing as perfection. You could hear his voice all over the field from one end zone to the other.  The players reacted differently than any I had ever seen.

It was absolutely awesome to watch how the young men responded to that voice, the voice of their new coach, Coach Mark Pemberton.

Based on day one of the first ever practice, Pemberton will do great things in this community and with the football program.

PUBLISHER’S NOTE: Les Martin, the longest tenured Voice of the Cougars, returns for his 14th season behind the mic come August. He’ll be joined by his longtime color analyst, Brent Allen.
