Late Friday morning accident occurs near Norris Lake
LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Late Friday morning, a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse driven by 29 year old Jorge Lismar Diaz Salas overturned claiming Salas’ life, according to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The THP report reads that the SUV was attempting to back down the driveway of 1865 Cove Point Road in south Campbell County. The Chevy ran onto the embankment and began to overturn going down the hill. Salas, not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the SUV, and then the vehicle came to an uncontrolled final rest. Original story: A Chevrolet Traverse wrecked and then landed on one of its three passengers late Friday morning. The SUV drove off Cove Point Circle, traveled down a steep embankment some 75-feet before ending up in the driveway of a lake home, according to officials.
A male was partially pinned under the Chevy and died at the scene, the official stated. The two other occupants were uninjured.
Firefighters and first responders with the Rural Fire Service and Rescue Squad used rescue equipment and rescue jacks to lift the SUV off the victim.
The Campbell County Rural Fire Service, EMS and sheriff’s office responded along with the La Follette Rescue Squad and THP. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/19/2024-3PM)
