Tough night for Cougar Football in Friday scrimmage

Campbell fell 48-0 to Knox Central KY in a preseason scrimmage on Reynolds Field

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Knox Central High from Barbourville, Kentucky, came to Reynolds Field on Friday night for a preseason scrimmage. This was Campbell’s second of three scrimmages before the regular season.

It was a tough game for the Cougars, one where the outcome was not at all what the Campbell County players, coaches and fans wanted. The team from Barbourville defeated Campbell County 48-0.

“It’s one of those things where we’ve gotta hunker down…and I gotta do a better job coaching these guys and getting them ready for these game time situations,” Coach Taylor Ownbey said after Friday night’s scrimmage. “We’ve just gotta put it behind us and keep working.’

Campbell will get another game time opportunity this week. The Orange-and-Blue head to Jefferson City to play at Burke-Tarr Stadium at Carson Newman. The Cougars will face off against the Christian Academy of Knoxville in the 5 Star Preps Jamboree presented by Tennessee Orthopedics Clinic. Eight area teams are participating for a total of four, one quarter games.

As for the regular season, it begins on August 22 at Lenoir City.
