Cougars participate in Carson-Newman Jamboree; Jake Miller Sports Talk aired over WLAF

By Clayton Carroll

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – If you like watching sports, talking about sports, and listening to people talk about sports, Thursday was your ideal evening.

The action-packed evening started off at 6pm with the third edition of Jake Miller Sports Talk. Watch the replay of the show HERE.

From 6-8pm, fans called in to talk about Tennessee’s switch to Adidas uniforms, special guest John Dunn, Director of Athletic Media Relations at LMU joined the show, and the decision to buy/not buy the Norris Lake Sports Complex was heavily discussed.

Former Cougar Jake Miller was in his element talking to a caller.

There tended to be two main opinions for the sports complex dilemma. Those opinions were “We should buy the Norris Lake Sports Complex” and “We should build our own”. There were also folks saying “we shouldn’t have set aside this money at all,” despite the money being allocated years in advance.

Many different points were brought up about the complex being cheaper than building a new one, being off campus, and already built and ready for immediate use after some renovations are completed on the interior. It was a tangled web of pros and cons for both the “we should buy,” and “we should build” camps.

The Norris Lake Sports Complex is up for sale for two million dollars

As for the Cougar football team, they headed to Burke-Tarr Stadium at Carson-Newman to participate in the 5 Star Preps Jamboree.

It was the Cougars and Christian Academy of Knoxville competing in a two quarter game. The first quarter featured both varsity squads with the CAK Warriors defeating Campbell 14-0. Neither JV squad scored in the second quarter keeping the score at 14-0 before the Cougars hit the buses and headed back home.

This was the final scrimmage opportunity for the Taylor Ownbey led Cougars before the scoreboard results in a win-loss. The regular season begins on August 22 at Lenoir City. For the 15th straight season, Les Martin and Brent Allen will bring you the coverage of Cougar Football over the WLAF Doyle’s Tire Sports Network. The network spans ten WLAF media platforms. Watch over WLAF TV-1089 on Comcast-Xfinity,1450wlaf.com, Roku TV, Amazon Fire TV, Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, and you can listen by way of WLAF Radio AM 1450 & FM 100.9 and Amazon Alexa.
