LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The house in this photo, the Alvis J. Carr home, was built at the corner of East Central Avenue and South 4th Street in 1908. Carr came to Lafollette before it was officially Lafollette.
Carr operated the Lafollette Co-operative store, and he was involved with the Lafollette brothers in many local business ventures. He, along with other local businessmen, owned the Cumberland Inn which burned in May 1904 as the fire destroyed much of the town along with the Lafollette Co-operative store.
The Carr family sold the home and moved up the valley. We now know this house as the office for Premier Weight Management and Esthetics.
In the valley, in the area of the old Middlesboro Highway near Carr Wynn Road, is where Carr operated one of the largest farms and finest horse stables in Powell Valley. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-07/09/2026-6AM)
