Upwards of 100 acres have burned, according to Tennessee Division of Forestry

CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN (WLAF)- Firefighters with the Caryville Volunteer Fire Department were paged out to wildfires along Highway 297 near the New Canaan Baptist Church just after 5pm Thursday. A call to the Campbell County Rural Fire Service for mutual aid soon followed at 5:18pm. The beginning point for the fires was at 8975 Highway 297. At the same time, Jellico Rescue Squad Firefighters were battling wildfires further north on Lowe’s Branch Road.

It’s been an active week for fires with dry and windy conditions creating challenges.

Three of Thursday’s fires came on the heels of four fires on Wednesday.

At last report, 32 acres burned in the Highway 297 wildfire, and six acres were scorched on Lowes Branch Road. The 297 fire is controlled, contained and extinguished, while the fire at Lowes Branch is controlled.

A bulldozer is a critical piece of equipment in fighting wildfires.

The size of the wildfire contained along Newcomb Pike is at 55acres. Two of the fires on Wednesday are controlled, Overlook Lane and Davis Chapel. A quarter acre burned at Overlook while the size at Davis Chapel was four acres.

Light rain amounts are expected Friday afternoon and evening.
