Multiple fire agencies respond to battle seven acre fire in very windy conditions

Breezes and temperatures in the 40s were the conditions as firefighters battled a brush fire.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Firefighters with the Campbell County Rural Fire Service were paged out to the call of a possible brush fire in the Grantsboro area near Norris Lake. That page came in at 11:15pm Tuesday with the scene not being cleared by some agencies until Wednesday at 3:45am.

Wind played a key role in the start of the fire and the fire itself, according to CCRFS Chief Daniel Lawson. Lawson believes the wind blew down a power line sparking the fire.

Though seven acres burned, three homes were saved.

Assistance from the Caryville and La Follette Fire Departments and the Tennessee Department of Forestry soon arrived to the scene on Bankwood Lane.

Three homes were saved from the fire as seven acres burned. There were no injuries.

A crew with LUB also responded as the Forestry Service firefighters did not clear the scene until after 5am.

Darkness makes operations more dangerous in fighting brush fires.
