Campbell Sheriff’s Deputies make arrests on New Years Eve at White Bridge staging area

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The Tennessee Highway Patrol conducted a sobriety checkpoint on New Year’s Eve on Demory Road in La Follette, around the White Bridge/Lonas Young Park. Campbell Deputies were a part of the checkpoint and made the night’s only two arrests.

It was almost 7pm on Dec. 31 when 42 year old Zachery Cobb of Nashville was arrested on a capias/bench warrant at the White Bridge. East of the White Bridge, close to 7:30pm, Tara Deserea White, 34, of Brook Lane, La Follette, was arrested on a DUI charge (driving under the influence). White was also charged with driving on revoked/suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Troopers and Campbell Deputies concentrated their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers who are driving impaired/driving under the influence.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has found sobriety checkpoints to be an effective means of enforcing DUI laws of Tennessee while ensuring the protections of all motorists.

Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 others every year in the United States. Troopers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Troopers will target those who operate a vehicle while impaired and take corrective actions for other violations observed while ensuring the protection of all motorists.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.

So far, two THP Sobriety Checkpoints are planned in 2025 here in Campbell County. The first one is Fri., Jan. 24, near the Red Roof Market at Caryville. That’s along Highway 116.
