KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF) – The Lady Cougars traveled to Karns on Friday night with a district championship appearance on the line. Also with a victory, the Orange-and-Blue would clinch a home game in the region tournament.

The saying goes, “It’s hard to beat a team three times,” and that was proven true on Friday Night.

Karns jumped out to a six point lead and led at the end of the first quarter 15-13. Then, Campbell answered back and maintained a five to eight point lead throughout the majority of the ball game.

Lady Beaver faithful rose to their feet with the last three minutes of the game and this rallied the Karns team. The Lady Beavers tied up the game with one minute and a half to go. Fortunately, they never would take the lead.

Campbell, thanks to some clutch free throw shooting, rebounding, and turnovers forced down the stretch, would hang on to win 60-55 and head back to the District 3-AAAA Championship.

There were three Mills Door and More Lady Cougars of the Game: Bella Lester, Saylor Hutcheson, and Carley Kitts. Hutch was the driving force of the offense in the first half, scoring twelve points in the first two quarters and 15 points the whole game. Bella Lester drained some critical buckets in the second half, being Campbell’s leading scorer with 16 points. Carley Kitts scored nine points; However, her rebounding was one of the biggest keys to the Lady Cougars’ victory. Kitts ended with a beyond impressive 13 rebounds. Also scoring for the Orange-and-Blue, Jayden Kitts contributed nine points . Lacey Pemberton finished with seven points, and Preslee Chapman rounded out the scorebook with four points.

The reward for Campbell’s victory is two-fold. For starters, the Lady Cougars have guaranteed themselves a home region game. Also, the Orange-and-Blue are headed back to the district championship for the second straight season to play Oak Ridge. The Lady Wildcats pounced the Powell Lady Panthers 76-32 to clinch their championship bid.
