LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – We’ve all had that teacher who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute one of our hard working educators with a weekly feature. Teachers make a difference in their students lives each and every day. For many students, having a teacher who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation.

This week’s featured teacher is Tammy Teague. She is the Instructional Coach at LaFollette Middle School and has been an educator for 34 years.

She and her husband Terry have two children and one grandson – Elizabeth Teague and fiancée James Fox, and Jordan Teague and wife Rachael and their son Grainger.

“My children and grandchildren are my biggest blessing and the reason that I strive each day hopefully to positively influence at least one student’s life each day,” Teague said.

Teague is from Campbell County and said some of her best times growing up were spent at Coolidge First Baptist Church and attending area schools.

Teague became a teacher “to give back to the community” that has given so much to her as she was growing up.

“Some of my favorite memories are of growing up in the youth group at Coolidge First Baptist Church and attending West LaFollette Elementary, LaFollette Jr. High, and Campbell County High School. Those memories are shaped by the adults who dedicated so much of their time to making a difference in the lives of each child they interacted with,” Teague said.

After 34 years in education, her “prayer” is that she has made a difference in a child’s life the way her own teachers impacted her life.

According to Teague, to name just one teacher that made a difference in her life would be very difficult because there have been so many.

Her parents also played a huge role in her becoming a teacher and Teague’s” love for education started at home.”

“I will say that I have been truly blessed to have parents, Bryan and Virginia Miller, that made sure that we valued our education as we were growing up,” Teague said.

Her 34-year career in education in Campbell County ranges from teaching 1st-8th grade and Reading Recovery. She has spent the last five years of her career as the Instructional Coach at LaFollette Middle School. This year marks a milestone for Teague as she is retiring at the end of the school year after a wonderful career.

“I have loved every aspect of my career and have been blessed to have worked with some of the best educators and administrators. As I retire at the end of this school year, I look back with very fond memories of each student that I was blessed to have been a part of their life. I hope one day that they will know what a great impact that they had on my life and how much that I had learned from them.”
