‘Tomatoes are really the show; there’s a lot beauty with flowers’- Nathaniel Morton, Ag Educator

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The Campbell County High School Greenhouse offers an exciting opportunity for the students and an annual treat for the public. Students learn how to do a little pricing, working with customers and exercising customer service, according to Nathaniel Morton. Aside from a wide smile, Morton has a wide range of titles. He serves as the FFA Advisor, an Ag Educator and Horticulturalist.
The Greenhouse is open Monday through Friday from 8:30am until 3pm. It’s on the Jacksboro side of the CCHS campus.

“Before the greenhouse opens, students learn to transplant and propagate different plant material. At the greenhouse, they get hands on experience with real people, real life situations,” said Morton. He goes on to say that this has a lot of gratification, because it has a lot of beauty involved so the students can see all these bright and brilliant colors on the different blooms. Students also get to see the activity of the vegetables so people can feed themselves.

“I really like working at the greenhouse. I especially enjoy working with the customers and plants,” said Christopher Frazer, CCHS sophomore.

“The public bails us out every year. They come out each spring from all over the county. We like to provide for them,” said Morton.

“I like plants, and I’m more into gardening vegetables,” said Chloe Kennedy, CCHS Sophomore.

“I plant a big garden, and I have large flower bed. I just love gardening,” said Sue Coward, a regular CCHS Greenhouse customer.

“A lot of of families will enjoy these flowers over the course of the spring and summer. However, the tomatoes are really the show. We provide a wide variety of types of tomatoes for canning or just for eating like Tommy Toes,” said Morton.

“My mom used to own three greenhouses. So, this is like home for me. I really like the plants,” said CCHS Freshman Jaiden Steakley.

Anita Kettlehake is an annual shopper at the CCHS Greenhouse. “I make sure I support the students. The greenhouse teaches kids how to keep plants growing. Mr. Morton is a gem. He’s always there for the students,” said Kettlehake.
