State Rep. Dennis Powers cautions you of telephone scam

‘This is a scam and is not from the State of Tennessee; hit delete and report as spam’- Powers

CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF)- “I have been receiving several of these by text and have just acted upon them as spam and deleted them, but some look so realistic, that people who receive them may be tempted to go online or call the phone number and pay them, said State Representative Dennis Powers.  

The sender wants you to “scan the QR code” or call the phone (613) area code number and pay your “fine”. All Nashville area codes are 615.  

“I just wanted to warn the public these are not from the State of Tennessee and are a scam and to simply hit “delete and report as spam” and in the meantime, I will report them to state officials this morning and have them investigate,” said Powers. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-04/06/2026-6AM)
