LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Last year, the once beautiful homes, turned into businesses, across from Woodson Mall were razed making way for a shopping center that’s currently being constructed. Over the past couple of weeks, you’ve likely seen the clearing of the Cox property where a family owned grocery store and gas pumps sat for decades and later used for other businesses. That’s the land that is now cleared and sits next to Walgreens.

The Cox Grocery Store and next door house are some of the last original structures that stood long after the development of the property along the four lane in the 1970s. Pizza Hut, Prater Chevrolet, Whiteway Plaza and Harris Supply were some of the original developments ahead of Woodson’s Mall.

The Cox property stretches from the four lane to the railroad tracks.

The just cleared land faces the four lane and Towe String Road in sort of an L shape. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/24/2024-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
