Veteran Eagle line coach steps in after Coach Cody Parker moves on

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- After Cody Parker stepped down as head coach of the Jacksboro Eagles football team, it was time for a coaching search. Now, Jacksboro has its guy.

Skylar Kirby is the new head football coach at Jacksboro Middle School. Connect HERE for the full interview with Coach Kirby.

Coach Kirby, a teacher at White Oak Elementary, assisted Cody Parker the past four years as the line coach. Kirby recognizes the shoes he’s filling as Parker is nothing short of a legend at JMS. “I know the standard that Cody (Parker) set, and that is the standard we are going to live up to,” said Kirby. He is beyond excited for the opportunity to be the head guy at JMS.

Kirby mentioned that it is a new challenge to be the head coach compared to being an assistant, but he is more than ready to get started. As a matter of fact, work begins today with a parent-player meeting, and the first practice/walkthrough is Tuesday.

As it comes to Kirby’s coaching staff, it’s much the same as last years staff. Kirby is keeping Devon Jones and Scott Webb and is trying to get a few more assistants. Two names we know for sure are also a part of the Kirby family as Robert and Tyler Kirby will join Skylar’s staff. Robert, former  Eagle, Cougar, and Voice of the Eagles will fill Skylar’s previous role of line coach. Tyler is also familiar wearing the Blue-and-Gold as he was on Cody Parker’s staff previously.

It should be an exciting season on Gibson Field and that starts with a battle against the defending state champion, Cherokee.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-03/03/2025-6AM)
