‘This does appear to be an isolated incident’- LaFollette City Adminstrator Stan Foust

LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- Following a deep cleaning, Seargeant Park will reopen today. It was closed on Sunday after a woman and a police officer experienced medical emergencies at the park.
Just before 1pm on Sunday, a 23- year- old woman passed out. A witness saw her faint after taking a drink from a water fountain, according to LaFollette Fire Chief Jimmy Pack. She was treated at the scene with her family taking her to the emergency room.
Police responded along with the fire department. While investigating the scene, a LaFollette Police Officer became ill, said LaFollette Police Chief Matthew Forsyth. He, too, was taken to the emergency room. He is now home and “doing well,” said Forsyth.
When city officials were notified of the incidents they “reacted immediately” closing the park, said LaFollette City Administrator Stan Foust.
In recent months, cameras have been installed throughout the city, Foust said. Seargeant Park is one of those locations.
“We want all city parks safe,” said Chris Smith, parks and recreation director. Placing cameras in all the parks is in process, he said.
This does appear to be an isolated incident, according to Foust. No one else at the park exhibited any symptoms. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 9/23/2025-6AM-PHOTO COURTESY OF WLAF’S MATTHEW MOORE)
