Alcoa battles back to win over Fulton

MURFREESBORO, TN (WLAF)- Caryville native Jody Wright’s Fulton Falcons played for a sixth state basketball title on Saturday afternoon at MTSU’s Murphy Center. However, it was Alcoa storming back from nine points down with less than five minutes to play, to win 57-48.

The first half was a struggle for both teams with Fulton tying the game at 10 but never leading. Alcoa was ahead 23-16 at intermission.

In a game of runs, Fulton outscored Alcoa 25 to 9 in the third quarter. Fulton was in front 46-37, appearing in control, with just under five minutes to play. That’s when Alcoa made its run outscoring Fulton 20 to 2 to claim the win.

It was a two-point game with 90-seconds left as Fulton trailed 50-48. Alcoa made its free throws and took advantage of Fulton turnovers to come away with a 57-48 win and the gold ball.
