Assistant Caryville Chief of Police Raymond Surber tracks suspect into Anderson County

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- On Sunday morning, over a stretch of road of almost 10 miles, Caryville Police Assistant Chief Raymond Surber pursued a speeding car.

Just before 10am, the assistant chief of police was conducting stationary radar along Highway 25W near the Elkins Road intersection. During his monitoring, Surber observed a south bound 2017 black Chevrolet Cruze traveling at a high rate of speed. Surber’s handheld radar unit clocked the sedan at 71 miles per hour, 26 MPH over the limit in the posted 45 MPH zone.

Officer Surber activated lights and siren and pursued the Chevy. The driver, later identified as James Tristen Rouse, entered I-75 heading south. Rouse accelerated to approximately 105 miles per hour in the posted 65 MPH zone, according to the report from the Caryville Police Department.

The pursuit continued into Anderson County where units from Rocky Top Police assisted CPD. Assistant Chief Surber was able to successfully stop the Chevy at Mile Marker 127, just south of Rocky Top, on I-75. Rouse was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Campbell County Jail.
