LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Ramsey Bloy (above photo) with the Campbell County Wrestling Club spoke at Tuesday’s Rotary Club luncheon held at the LaFollette Methodist Church.

He spoke on “why wrestling is good for Campbell County kids” and gave the details of the wrestling club which was started last fall.

Bloy is 27- years- old. He is from Wisconsin and attended the University of the Cumberlands, where he wrestled. He moved to Campbell County after college and is a personal trainer at Workout Anytime.

“I grew up in Wisconsin which is known for wrestling,” Bloy said.

Bloy started the wrestling club last November and had 14 kids show up for the first practice.

Over six months of practices he said he has had 75 kids try the sport for at least one practice, including 10 girls.

The club is co-ed and open to ages 6 to 18. The club mascot is the Bloodhounds.

Practices are held at the LaFollette Elementary School on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:45 to 8 pm. The first two practices are free.

According to Bloy, wrestling is the “greatest sport and the greatest metaphor for life….your success depends on your work ethic, dedication and toughness, just like in life” Bloy said.

He said wrestling improves over-all athletic ability.

“I want to create young men and women who are respectful and hard working. Wrestling is an awesome way to improve your son or daughter’s athletic ability, mental toughness, attitude, and health. Wrestlers come in all shapes and sizes, from all backgrounds, and is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country,” Bloy said, adding that wrestling was a confidence builder.

“It’s really great for all kids. The startup cost to start wrestling is fairly minimal. You need a pair of shoes and a mat,” Bloy said.

He said things were going well with the wrestling club and that he was “thankful for all the support from the community.”

“I’m grateful to make an impact on this community. I’m excited to grow this sport in this community and in all of East Tennessee,” Bloy said.  His hope is to eventually start a wrestling team at the high school after he “grows this younger crop of wrestlers.”

“Wrestling can open a lot of doors and provide opportunities and scholarships for our students,” Bloy said.

Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:45 to 8 pm. For more information, contact Coach Ramsey Bloy at ramzbloy@gmail.com or call him at 920.427.7262. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – -6/12/2024-6AM)
