JELLICO, TN. (SPECIAL TO WLAF)- Last month, Jellico High School came together to celebrate the U-S Citizenship of Humberto “Bert” Reyes-Garcia in an assembly. This was a surprise celebration for him. The students cheered as he was brought into the auditorium, even standing for him as he came to the stage. Johnny Massengale explained the process for becoming a U-S Citizen.
Faculty and staff donated money and purchased patriotic themed gifts for Reyes-Garcia and presented him with these. Reyes-Garcia has been a resident since 2002 and wanted to be a citizen so he could vote in all elections.

“As a citizen you no longer need to worry about losing your right to live and work in this country. I like the diversity of cultures you can find in the country and the beauty of the land. Hard work and dedication will take you to fulfill your dreams in the United States. Citizens should be grateful and appreciate the country we live in and thank all the people who have contributed over the years to build this great nation,” he said.
Reyes-Garcia is an inspiration to the staff and students at Jellico High School every day.
