Sam (left) and Ed Balloff

By Charlie Hutson

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Our Throwback Thursday is Sam and Ed Balloff standing in front of their Lafollette store at the corner of Central and Tennessee Avenues.

At one time, there were five Balloff stores in East Tennessee. The Lafollette store was the starting place for all the others. On September 30 of this year, Sam passed away at the age of 100. Older brother Ed passed away June 7, 2014. Many of you will remember shopping at Balloff’s.

It was always a special treat when I could catch Ed and Sam together; those two could tell some wonderful stories. Several years ago I caught up with both of them at Ed’s office at Basista, Balloff, Scott and Pollard in Jacksboro, They had got in a big way about telling a story getting kinda loud when about this time Terry Basista came in, and as he was closing the door, said laughing, don’t let me disturb you guys.
