LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Two women, in the same car, were injured in the lunch hour Monday when the car veered off East Central Avenue wrecking across from the post office. The driver of the car was treated and released from the La Follette Medical Center (LMC), and she was arrested by La Follette Police upon her release. The passenger in the single vehicle wreck was airlifted to a Knoxville hospital. HERE is a related story.

LPD Officer Austin Tindell spoke with the driver of the red 2015 Hyundai Elantra, Amanda Mullins Monday. The officer noted in his report that Monday explained to him that she thought something went wrong with her car, and she did not remember what happened up until the point of the crash.

One patient was airlifted to a Knoxville hospital following a Monday afternoon wreck.

Before Monday was transported by Campbell County EMS to LMC, she allegedly gave Officer Tindell consent to search her purse and her car that has a Kentucky license plate.

Sgt. Mike Satkowski and Sgt. Noah Riggs searched the Hyundai with Satkowski locating a bottle of 28 Methylphenidate pills in a prescription bottle that did not belong to Monday. Five small plastic baggies were found with two allegedly containing Methamphetamine while two other baggies contained what was believed to be Gabapentin, according to the LPD report.

La Follette Patrolman Nicholas Marcum called Officer Tindell to tell him that hospital personnel had performed a CT scan of Monday. Healthcare officials allegedly located a small silver container in Monday’s vaginal canal. The container held several pills ranging from Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Diazepam and Morphine, based on the police report.

When asked if she had taken anything prior to the car crash, Monday allegedly told the officers that she took some medicine earlier on the day of the wreck, based on the report from LPD. Monday could not remember exactly what she had taken, according to police.

The Knoxville hospital where the passenger was transported would not return WLAF’s requests for the patient’s condition.

Both airbags deployed in this Monday afternoon wreck.

Monday, 38, 8364 New Highway 63, Speedwell, was charged with DUI (driving under the influence), vehicular assault, possession of schedule II for resale and possession of schedule V controlled substance.

A July 27 court date awaits Monday who is housed this morning at the Campbell County Jail on a $52,000 bond. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/21/2023-6AM)
