CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- On Monday evening, the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen met in regular session at the municipal building.
First on the agenda was the discussion of purchasing two radar units for the police department in the amount of $4,898.34. The money to pay for the units will come from the 2024-25 THSO grant. This item was tabled until a later date. Next was a discussion of audit fees for Mitchell Emert and Hill P.C. in the amount of $25,000 for the 2025-26 fiscal year, the board approved the expenditure. However, they decided to bid this item out next year. In other financial matters, the board approved the first reading of Ordinance NO: 2025-02 amending the CDBG fund annual operating budget for fiscal year 2024-25 in the amount of $5,016.20. The board discussed the annual operating budget for fiscal year 2025-26.
City Recorder/CMFO Trecia Kindred resigned last month. Last night the board discussed the job posting, the board approved advertising the position for two weeks.
The town has been searching for a new information technology provider after the last company they worked with went out of business. Over the past two months, two different companies have been present to discuss what services they offer and the price tag associated with those services. Last night the board discussed some of their needs with the service and agreed to reach out to Provisions to discuss the need further.
The town has been working for the past year to make renovations to the municipal building. Last night the board discussed going with Plan A which consists of a living quarters in the fire department, an additional bay in the fire department, renovation of the front office and bathrooms. The board requested Aldermen Eric Jones work alongside Mayor David Chambers and Fire Chief Eddie Hatmaker to get a price break down of cost into sections of the building.
The town is looking toward building phase two of the all-inclusive park next to the Caryville Cares Playground. Concerns have arisen that the cost of the park is more than the town has for the project. The board discussed a price breakdown of several items for the park. The board agreed to review the items and discuss at a later date what they feel they can do without at the park so they can cut cost.
