Michael D. Queener, 64 of Lake City, TN went home to be with the Lord on May 13th, 2024, at his home. Michael, known as Mike, was born to Doyle and Minnie Queener on March 1st, 1960, in Lake City, TN. He has always had a love for hunting, fishing, and wood working. He never met a stranger, loved spending time with his family and his grandkids. They were the light of his life. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
He is preceded in death by his father Doyle Queener.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; mother, Minnie Queener; brother, Scott Queener and wife Cheryl; daughters, Sarah Oxendine and husband Eddie; Tammy Novak and husband Steve, Sherri Idles and husband Bobby; grandchildren, Taygon Novak, Kailyn Idles, and Kacie Creech; great-grandchildren, Lance Novak, Connor Novak, and apple of his eye Willow Jude; and several other nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. To his special hunting buddies: he loved you dearly, and at times probably shared more with you than he did his family. You were very special to him, and know who you are.
“Sometimes at the close of a long race, I find myself in a coma, standing alone in the trail with the chains in my hand. Suddenly I awaken. Yes, the last one of my old pals are gone! It can’t be, I say. They must have followed the hounds to the far edge of the big swamp. I’ll wait awhile and see if they don’t come back. These are sad thoughts, my eyes fill with tears as I slowly walk away.
Soon I will be going where they are and together, as of old, we will be standing on the hilltop to catch the thrills as the pack breaks over the ridge and coming closer. Yes, it’s the same old pack we listened to while in the flesh. I can hear their voices now as the music fades and I watch them slip one by one over the Great Divide that leads to the Valley below. There will be NO CHECKS THIS TIME and THE RACE WILL NEVER END and THE MUSIC WILL NEVER DIE! And when at long last the sun, for me, goes down a flaming red and I close the kennel door for the last time, I will wave to you from the rim of the canyon, and if you will listen, you will hear me softly saying, ‘Bye now, my friends. It’s been nice to know you.’†— From Wilderness Patchwork by Willet Randall
