Listen for the 2021 Campbell High grad over WLAF

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Caryville native Jonah Brassfield became the second meteorologist on staff at WLAF earlier this week. The Mississippi State graduate earned his degree in meteorology in the summer of 2024, and he made his broadcasting debut over WLAF on Thursday afternoon.

“I thought I was going to go into the medical field, and I decided, pretty quickly, against that. Years ago, after a trip down south during a tornado outbreak is when I first became really interested in weather,” said Brassfield.

During a winter visit to Florida, Brassfield’s future in weather was set. “It was snowing back home here in Campbell County while I was at Disneyworld, and all I could think about was that snowy weather. I was trying to find out as much as I could about the snow storm,” said Brassfield.

Brassfield’s first weather forecast on WLAF aired following the 4pm CBS News on Thursday. “I don’t know how to describe being on the air for the first time; nervous, anxious, excited,” said Brassfield.

Listen for Brassfield’s weather forecasts over WLAF as he juggles being on the air with graduate school.

Brassfield joins Jim Freeman, WLAF’s other meteorologist, making WLAF one of the few radio stations, if not the only, in Tennessee with two certified meteorologist on staff.

“My goal is to be a television meteorologist or go with the National Weather Service. Helping people is what I want to do, and I think providing weather forecasts allows me to do that,” said Brassfield. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-08/01/2025-6AM)
