MEDIC’s B Negative Blood type inventory is critically low

Blood product demand at MEDIC Regional Blood Center is high this week

KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF)- There is an immediate need for blood donations at the MEDIC Regional Blood Center. Blood product demand has been high this week, and MEDIC is experiencing low inventory of several blood types. Your help is needed.

Here is a look at MEDIC’s Current Inventory Levels:

WHO: MEDIC Regional Blood Center

WHAT: Low Inventory – O Positive and O Negative Blood Types, Critically Low Inventory – B Negative Blood Type, O Positive, O Negative, and B Negative whole blood and ALYX donors will receive $25 e-gift cards for their successful donation.

WHEN: Immediate Need. Incentive ends 3/31/2026.

WHERE: All donor centers and mobile drives.

WHY: Blood product demand has been high this week, and MEDIC is experiencing low inventory of several blood types.

Appointments can be made online, via the MEDIC app, or by calling 865-524-3074. Walk-ins are welcome.

Donors can now complete the questionnaire online before they arrive.

MEDIC is the primary blood product provider for 25 hospitals and air medical transport services across 23 counties. MEDIC services Blount Memorial, Covenant Health System, Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital, Tennova Healthcare, and UT Medical Center.

As a reminder, the blood, platelets, and plasma products on the shelves now are what would be used in a trauma event. Donated blood takes at least three days to be processed and ready for distribution.

MEDIC is an independent, nonprofit organization. Products donated through MEDIC help community members in East Tennessee and Southeastern Kentucky. Products donated through any other collection activity/organization do not stay in East Tennessee or Southeastern Kentucky. They are shipped out of the area and nationally.
