NASHVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – Coordinator of Elections Mark Goins, a La Follette native, with the Tennessee Secretary of State’s office, was one of 53 executives who recently graduated from the Tennessee Government Executive Institute (TGEI). TGEI is a partnership between the Tennessee Department of Human Resources and the Naifeh Center for Effective Leadership.
The graduation took place at the Tennessee State Library and Archives. The graduating class’ keynote speaker was Dr. Will Miller of Purdue University. Miller is a recognized expert in the area of stress and coping, interpersonal relations, organizational health and wellness, and workplace culture. A therapist and teacher at Purdue, he lectures at the schools of Organizational Leadership, Management and Mass Communication on the social environment of the workplace and the impact of productivity. TGEI 2023 Class President Chip Kain with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance shared a program reflection with his graduating class.
TGEI prepares state government leaders for public service and stewardship. The primary objectives of the program are to build partnerships among the departments of state government as well as to increase the leadership knowledge and skill of state leaders. TGEI offers senior-level managers an opportunity to broaden their perspectives of executive responsibility through study, analysis and discussion.
