LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Detective-Sergeant Noah Riggs with the LaFollette Police Department saw Kelvin Lynn Chumley at the intersection of West Hemlock and South 13th Streets around 11:30 am last Thursday. Riggs had prior knowledge that Chumley’s driver’s license was revoked. A check of his license revealed that it was revoked with an extensive driving on revoked history. 

Det.-Sgt. Riggs saw Chumley get into the driver’s seat of a Dodge Dakota and drive north on 13th Street. Riggs stopped the pick-up on Rose Hill Drive and approached the passenger side of the vehicle while back up officer Anthony Mahar was talking to Chumley. Riggs saw Chumley turn his body away from Officer Mahar and with his right hand reach into his front right pant pocket and pull out a small, tied plastic baggie with a powder substance and place it into his mouth in an attempt to keep Mahar from seeing him and to keep officers from finding it, according to a report from the LaFollette Police Department.

After Riggs had called for first responders for Chumley’s health and well-being due to him ingesting the powder substance. Chumley reported that he had swallowed a nicotine packet and also stated there were 1 CC Syringes in the truck. Riggs recovered several used 1 CC Syringes from Chumley’s jacket pocket as well as a plastic container from the center console with a cotton filter and a pink powder substance in the container. Also recovered was a clear corner baggie with pink powder residue.

Chumley, 47, 187 Fountain Lane, LaFollette was charged with  possession schedule I Heroin, driving on revoked and tampering/destruction of evidence. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/02/2024-6AM)
