LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- There is an Open House scheduled for the Campbell County Christian Academy on Thu., Aug. 1 at 6 pm.

The event will start in the school’s gym with a dedication and a prayer with the teachers, board members, parents and “all those who have helped” get the school back in running order.

After the dedication ceremony, teachers will be released to go to their classrooms where they will be “going over school supply lists” and will be available to talk with parents, as will board members and Christian Academy Principal Donnie Poston. The academy will serve children pre-K through sixth grade.

According to board member Lynn Ray, it “has been a huge group effort” to get renovations, and repairs done on the school grounds over the past couple of months.

Odus Mundy spent his Saturday spreading paint.

The Christian Academy opened in 1994 and closed in 2017, and the building had sat empty. Several months ago, Ray, along with several others involved in the Christian Learning Center and on that board began a conversation about the need for the Christian Academy to reopen.

“There seemed to be a lot of board members were feeling this need, this heaviness on our chests about the academy not being active anymore, so we started having conversations and that has led us to where we are now,” Ray said, adding that none of it could have been done without the magnitude of volunteers that have stepped up.

Here’s a look at the 4th grade classroom.

“We have had so much help. Tony Poteet with the Kingdom Builders has headed up the cleaning and maintenance of the building and put in a lot of effort in getting the building ready. Shannon Cox with Cox Construction has put in a lot of help, and it just couldn’t have been done without all the help and volunteers,” Ray said.

Tony Poteet is helping get things ready for Thursday’s Open House.

Springs of Life also sent a group over to help work on the building over the summer and “multiple churches have been involved in helping as well.”

Things are moving right along, and the school has already hired all the teachers, except a sixth-grade teacher, which it is in the process of doing. All new student furniture is expected to be delivered soon and everything is beginning to “look new again.”

The original cross is still positioned high above the entrance to the Academy.

“We’re excited about the reopening; there has been a lot of interest from the community about the academy starting back up and some students have already registered. It’s taken a group effort, and we are thankful for all the support and help,” Ray said.

According to the Campbell County Christian Academy, its mission “is to partner with families in providing students a Christ-centered and academically challenging education equipping them with a biblical worldview as they grow in understandings, attitudes, skills, and in favor with God and man.”

These doors will swing open in August welcoming students to the Christian Academy of Campbell County.
