CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN (WLAF)- On Saturday, November 22, Scouts from all over Campbell County traveled to the American Museum of Science and Energy and the K-25 History Center.

According to Cub Scout leader Bethany Benjamin, “Scouts got to experience different STEM components, participated in science labs, and learned the impact Science has made in our local community.”

Scouts got to experience some first-hand experiments at the American Museum of Science and Energy on a recent field trip.

While at the museum, Scouts got to enjoy some hands-on science time with experiments, including the “Atom smasher and an experiment with liquids and gasses.”

“We had Cub Scouts from Pack 108 and Pack 134 and Scouts BSA Troop 435, in attendance. This trip was made possible by the Bosch Community Grant,” Benjamin said.

She also encourages parents to get their kids involved in Scouts and the many opportunities it can provide.

“Scouting gives boys and girls a chance to learn something new and exciting around every corner and can help them prepare for the future,” Benjamin said.

At the Cub Scout level, “everything is done with the scouts’ families and volunteer leaders.”

“The Scouts learn to be social, explore the outdoors and, and do lots of fun activities ranging from playing games to STEM projects. At the Scouts BSA level, the Scouts lead the program. With the help of adult volunteers, they plan activities that they want to experience. This may be outdoor survival skills, leadership, community service, or working towards their next merit badge. Above all else, it’s just plain fun!” Benjamin said.

Pack 134 (family) and Troop 435 (girls) meet on Monday nights at the LaFollette Methodist Church; the Cub Scout Pack meets at 6:30, while the troop meets at 6 pm. Pack 108 (family) and Troop 310 (boys) meet on Tuesday nights at Cedar Hill Baptist Church, with the cub scout pack meeting at 6pm and the Troop meets at 7pm.

Benjamin also shared the exciting news that a Cub Scout Pack is forming in Jellico.

It was a hair-raising experience for Scouts to visit the American Museum or Science and Energy on Nov. 22.
