In this season of giving and giving thanks, Food Life Services has much to celebrate

Food Life Services is in a portion of the former East End School.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- At Food Life Services, founded in 1993, there is much to celebrate and many reasons to be thankful during this season of giving and giving thanks.

For a few hours each week, 10 volunteers help those in our community with ‘a leg up’. In fact, one person has been volunteering since 1997.

“We are proud of our small pantry and encourage visitors,” said Charlie Ruth, a member of the FLS Board.

Second Harvest Food Bank at Maryville provides most of the quality food for Food Life Services. The Food Lion in La Follette donates bread, cakes and produce every day to Food Life Services which is located at 800 East Chestnut Street in La Follette.

Hours of distribution are 9am until 1pm, Tuesdays.

The Leadership Council at Saint John Neumann Catholic School, grades preschool through 8th grade, at Knoxille conducts an annual food drive to benefit the FLS pantry. Teenagers have been collecting approximately 5,000 pounds of food each year since 2003.

Local donations from Campbell Countians and others collectively contribute 40% of the annual revenue for Food Life Services.

The section of East Elm Street where FLS sits is between South Cumberland Ave and South 14th Street.

“We are energized by all of this giving and more,” said Ruth.

Food Life Services is also supported by Clinch River Casting, Federal FEMA, Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, Food City Charitable Foundation, The Campbell County Enhancement Fund, The La Follette Medical Foundation and Y-12 Federal Credit Union.

“You do make a difference. The need is real,” said Ruth.

If you would like to donate to FLS, make your check payable to Food Life Services, P.O. Box 802, La Follette, Tennessee 37766.

Food Life Services faces East Elm Street even though the address is listed as East Chestnut Street, the street on the other side of the building.
