East Tennessee based Foothills Strategies founded by Michael Grider; has Campbell County roots

“My family on my mom’s side is from Campbell County, and Joe and Ruth (Edwards) Marlow were my grandparents,” said Grider.

KNOXVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF)- Congressman Tim Burchett’s former chief of staff and longtime aide, Michael Grider, recently founded a strategic consulting firm, Foothills Strategies, based in East Tennessee. Prior to serving the past five-and-a-half years as Rep. Burchett’s chief of staff, Grider spent eight years as Knox County’s communications director during Burchett’s two terms as Knox County mayor.

Foothills Strategies provides a wide range of strategic consulting services, including business and community relations, government relations, public relations, communications and media relations, as well as crisis management and prevention.

“After spending more than five years working in Washington, DC, I am excited to put that and my previous experience to work here in East Tennessee,” Grider said. “Over nearly two decades, I’ve worked in the news industry, as well as government and politics at the local and federal level, and I look forward to using my experience to help East Tennessee businesses and organizations meet their strategic goals.”

“Michael will always be close to my girls and me. He has become and will always remain one of my best friends. I am excited for him in his new venture,” Burchett said when his office announced Grider’s planned transition to the private sector.

In addition to his experience working with Burchett in both his congressional and mayoral offices, Grider spent time as a digital and broadcast journalist at WVLT-TV Channel 8, NewsTalk 98.7, 107.7 WIVK, and The Sports Animal 99.1. He is an Oak Ridge, Tenn., native and University of Tennessee graduate.
