LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – In the quiet of the late evening on Sunday, Sgt. Homer Officer Herrell responded to a routine noise complaint, unaware that his night was about to take an unexpected turn. As fate would have it, a local teen witnessed a tiny pair of kittens tumbling out from under a vehicle just as the officer was departing the scene. Concerned for their well-being, the teen, accompanied by two friends, scooped up the kittens and made their way to the police station for help.

Arriving at the station, they found Sgt. Herrell outside the building. They quickly flagged him down and explained the situation. Without hesitation, the segeant joined the group in a diligent search for any additional kittens that might be hiding nearby. As they got down on their hands and knees, Herrell mentioned that his neighbors had recently welcomed a litter of kittens, sparking a realization that these little ones might belong to them.

Together, they discovered four more kittens cleverly concealed in the wheel well cover. The surprise of finding a total of six kittens was matched only by the relief that came when Sgt. Herrell’s neighbors arrived to claim the furry escapees. One-by-one, the kittens were safely returned to their mother’s care.

The incident, though small in nature, highlighted Sgt. Herrell’s commitment to all aspects of his duty, proving that no job is too big or too small for him to handle. His actions that night exemplified the spirit of community service and the kindness that often goes unseen in the daily work of our law enforcement officers. The Sergeant’s story is a gentle reminder of the unexpected ways in which we can make a difference, and it’s safe to say that his efforts Sunday night made him a true kitten hero.
