JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Educators make a difference in students’ lives every day. For many students, having a school employee who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher, or school employee who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hardworking educators with a weekly feature.
Lisa Greenwood is Eagle Tire Pros Educator of the Week. She teaches special education in the Comprehensive Development Classroom at Jacksboro Elementary School.
She shared a little about herself and her career in education.
“I have been married to my husband, Allen, for 22 years, and we have a daughter, Alyssa, who is 13 and an 8th grader at Jacksboro Middle. We have two dogs, laid-back Maverick and high-maintenance Rosie,” Greenwood said. In the free time she has, she enjoys hiking and running.
She is a Sevier County native and a graduate of Gatlinburg-Pittman High School.
“I was blessed to have so many amazing and caring teachers, and I keep in touch with several of them,” Greenwood said.
She also shared that she has been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for 10 years, and that she is the President of the local chapter, Beta Phi, which covers Campbell and Claiborne Counties.
As a chapter, their “goal is to advance the field of education and support teachers, both current teachers and those pursuing careers in education. The chapter also “sponsors several projects that benefit the local community”
Greenwood has been a special education teacher for 23 years with 15 of those years as a Comprehensive Development Classroom (CDC) teacher for students with disabilities who require more intensive support.
“This is where my heart is and, while it can be challenging, I absolutely love it,” Greenwood said.
She has taught 12 years in Tennessee (11 years and counting in Campbell County) and 11 years in North Carolina.
“I have taught at Jacksboro Elementary since January 2024, and I love it! The administration, faculty, and staff have been incredibly supportive of the CDC class (which I opened in March 2025), and the school’s 4th and 5th grade students in the Peer Buddy program (that fellow special ed. teacher, Loretta Phillips, started and leads) have been so helpful and kind. I have two educational assistants, Alice Wolfe and Kathy Bolton, who are my rock. We make a great team, and I am so thankful for them. My students are wonderful, and I love all of them very much. Jacksboro Elementary has truly been the best school where I have taught, and I am so grateful to be there.” Greenwood said.
She also said she appreciated being recognized as an educator of the week.
“I love what I do, and I am excited about the upcoming school year!”
