JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – A controversial call with a half-second to play did in the Lady Cougars Thursday night on Brown Court. Powell nailed two free throws breaking a 33-33 deadlock to push its lead to 35-33. Campbell was unable to launch a shot, and the buzzer barked marking the game’s end.

It was just a struggle. All night long. More so for Campbell than Powell. The ugly win is Powell’s ninth of the season coming off Tuesday’s 18 point home loss to Campbell.

Campbell was ahead 6-5 at the end of the first quarter, and Powell was in front 12-10 at intermission. It was the Lady Cougars third quarter as they outscored Powell 11 to 9 to make it 21-21 entering the fourth quarter. Powell outpaced Campbell 14-12 in the final frame to win it 35 to 33.

Saylor Hutchison was tops for Campbell with 13 followed by eight points from Lacey Pemberton and four each from Preslee Chapman and Carley Kitts. Jayden Kitts and Bella Lester tallied two points a piece.

The records are now 18 & 4 for the Lady Cougars with Powell sitting at 9 & 10. In the district, Campbell is 3 & 3 while the Lady Panthers are 4 & 3.

Up next for the Campbell is an opponent it has played quite recently, as in last Saturday, Oak Ridge. The Lady Cougars and Cougars make the return trip to Prudden Court on Friday.
