NEW TAZEWELL, TN (WLAF)- Campbell traveled to New Tazewell on Monday night to battle the Lakeway Christian Academy Lions in the first round of the Elevation and KOC Invitational at Claiborne County High School. 

This was a game that neither team really had a clear advantage. After the first quarter, the Lions barely led 14-12.

At the half, the lead was cut in half, 31-30 Lions.

This close battle continued throughout the evening with the Lions and Cougars exchanging blows.

In the end it was Lakeway’s length and height that propelled it to a 58-50 victory over Campbell.

Unofficially, Gavin Cox had a beyond impressive 23 points for Campbell County. Luke Browning also reached double digits with 12 points, all coming from mid range shots. Keegan Nelson scored seven for the Cougars. Will Croley finished with four points. Gavin totaled three points, and Jake Hatmaker rounded out the scoring column with two points.

The Cougars are 1 & 2 on this young season.

Up next for the Cougars, still in the Claiborne tourney, is West Greene. The Buffaloes tip off against Campbell on Friday at 3pm.
