Campbell 63 Knoxville Central 39, watch the game HERE on demand

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- After surviving a 54-52 scare at William Blount on Saturday, the Lady Cougars readied to host the Lady Bobcats of Central in the district opener on Tuesday.

It was a sluggish start for Campbell on the offensive side of the basketball. The Lady Cougars’ first points didn’t come until the 3:14 mark in the first quarter after Bella Lester bottomed a bucket from the paint.

This tied the game at two, but after that first shot went  in, it was all Orange-and-Blue.

Although sloppy at times, Campbell maintained a steady lead. At halftime, the Lady Cougars led 34-14 at half.

When the final horn sounded, the girls in Orange-and-Blue won their district opener, 63-39.

Campbell Head Coach Jason Kitts thought his team played well at times, but they tended to let the Lady Bobcats hang around. He said again “we’ll be better” and that this team can be really special when they are playing their best ball.

Four Lady Cougars totaled double digits in Tuesday’s contest. Lacey Pemberton, the Mills Door and More Player of the Game,  led the scoring column with 14 points. Carley Kitts finished right behind Pemberton with 13 points. Jayden Kitts and Saylor Hutcheson racked up 11 points apiece. Preslee Chapman scored eight points. Bella Lester tallied five points, and Reagan Davis rounded out the scoring column with a point.

The Lady Cougars remain undefeated, now 8 and 0 on the season, 1 and 0 in district play. Up next for the Orange-and-Blue is another district game. The Lady Cougars travel to Karns on Friday to battle the Beavers.

Clayton Carroll is back behind the mic for the Lady Cougars call beginning at 5:50 pm over the WLAF Doyle’s Tire Sports Network which consists of AM 1450, FM 100.9, TV 1089, 1450wlaf.com, YouTube, Facebook, Roku TV, Alexa, Amazon Fire TV, and Twitch.
