JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Lady Cougars hadn’t played a basketball game since December 19, which was 17 days ago, and it showed during the early minutes of Tuesday’s night’s contest against Halls.
Campbell started off sluggish, but never let Halls gain a big lead. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Red Devils led Campbell 10-9.

In the second quarter though, the Orange-and-Blue caught fire. Led by a barrage of three-point buckets, primarily by Alexa York and Karlie Allen, the Lady Cougars were able to acquire a double-digit lead. At halftime, Campbell led 29-16.
In the third and fourth quarters, Halls wouldn’t go away, but the Lady Cougars kept their foot on the gas pedal. Thanks to the long ball and 10 for 11 free throw shooting, Campbell cruised to a 53-39 win against the Lady Devils.
The Lady Cougars, with the win, advance to 6 and 5 on the season, and more importantly, to 2 and 0 in District 3-AAAA of Region 2.
Campbell drained nine three pointers on Tuesday night, and hitting five of them was Karlie Allen, who led Campbell in scoring with 20 points. Allen was the Kitts Paint and Body Lady Cougar of the Game. Alexa York scored her season high 16 points. Preslee Chapman totaled nine points on the evening. Addy Coleman finished with five points, and Reagan Davis scored three points.

In a game that was littered with a lot of chirping, elbowing, pushing, and shoving, “We were able to prevail and keep our heads tonight,” said Head Coach Jason Kitts. “We don’t ever teach fighting, but we do teach our girls to not back down.” He continued to praise his team for “shooting the ball well enough” in Halls’ zone defense and “shaking off the dust and getting the win.”
Up next, is the third place team in the district, the Central Lady Bobcats. Central just went wire to wire with first place Powell, falling to the Lady Panthers 61-56 in overtime on Tuesday. Campbell will head to Fountain City on Friday night for a 6pm game.
