“Friday was all about basics,†said Lady Cougar Head Basketball Coach Brad Honeycutt after his Campbell County team fell to Oak Ridge on Friday night on Prudden Court.
The 74-44 loss snapped Campbell’s 10-game winning streak and knots it with Oak Ridge atop the district standings.
Honeycutt points out “We got away from a lot of the things that allowed us to win like we have this season.â€Â CCHS gave up 25 points off turnovers and 22 points in transition along with 14 second chance points. If those points are cut in half, it would have been a different game.
Since Friday, the Lady Cougars have gotten back to the basics emphasizing the basics like boxing out, getting back in transition and taking care of the ball. It’s a short turn-a-round with CCHS back in action tonight at Clinton in the last regular season district game.
“I love this team and we have a lot of basketball left. Tonight at Clinton will be a little different challenge than last time. They always shoot the ball really well at their place and play with more confidence,†added Honeycutt.
The Lady Cougars are 24 & 3 in all games with a 12 & 1 mark in the district while Clinton is 14 & 10 overall and 6 & 6 in the district. Less than three weeks ago, Campbell defeated Clinton 78-44 on Brown Court on January 18.
