Campbell travels to Maryville today to face Heritage in a 6pm contest

By Clayton Carroll

KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF)- The Campbell County Lady Cougars, 8 and 0, traveled to Karns to battle the 3 and 3 Lady Beavers in the final district game before Christmas break.

The Orange-and-Blue started off extremely fast. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Cougars led Karns 21-6. Campbell’s stellar shooting performance, as well as its usual tenacious defense, really propelled the Lady Cougars against Karns.

At halftime, the Lady Cougars led 31-16. Karns made a couple runs, but they were quickly answered by an even larger run from Campbell.

The Lady Cougars dominated Karns in every aspect of the game on their way to a 67-46 victory, tying their highest scoring performance of the season.

Unlike Karns, the Lady Cougars were very balanced in the scorebook. Three Lady Cougars totaled double digits on Friday– Saylor Hutcheson, Lacey Pemberton, and Bella Lester. Hutch, who has scored 10 or more points in the last four games had 17, Lacey Pemberton totaled 16 points, all from the paint, and Bella Lester finished with 13 points. All three were the Mills Door and More Players of the Game. Carley Kitts scored eight points. Reagan Davis drilled two threes for a total of six points. Jayden Kitts accounted for three points, all coming from the charity stripe, and Preslee Chapman and Destiny Rutherford each tallied two points.

The Lady Cougars remain undefeated, now 9 and 0 in all games, and 2 and 0 in district play.

Following the impressive performance at Karns, the Lady Cougars set their sights toward a 3A state powerhouse, Heritage. The Lady Cougars travel to Maryville for a tilt with the Lady Mountaineers on Monday.
