Campbell, qualifying for the region tourney, never trailed in win against Lady Bobcats.

FOUNTAIN CITY, TN (WLAF) – It was win or go home for the Lady Cougars as they traveled to Fountain City to battle the host team, Central, in round one of the district 3-AAAA tournament.

The question was how would Campbell start the game…would they be nervous? Would they start sloppy? Fortunately for the Lady Cougars, that answer was no. The Orange-and-Blue darted out of the gate to grab a quick 9-0 lead against Central. The Lady Bobcats, in fact, did not tally their first points in the quarter until more than three minutes in. Campbell lead after the first quarter 17-9.
It was much the same for the Lady Cougars in the second quarter. The offensive attack, led mostly by Bella Lester’s 10 first half points, put up 15 points in the second frame 32-19.
Despite Central’s best efforts, Campbell thwarted every run the Lady Bobcats made. The Lady Cougars throughout the third quarter extended their lead to 16 at the end of the third, 49-33.
Unlike the last contest at Central, there would be no late game shenanigans like last week’s hot shooting finish to make it a very close call for Campbell. The Lady Cougars tamed the Bobcats this time 65-47.
Unofficially, Bella Lester, your Local Realtor Gage Dople Player of the Game, led the Orange-and-Blue with an impressive 21 points. Carley Kitts scored 11. Ten points came from Lacey Pemberton. Jayden Kitts totaled nine points. Saylor Hutcheson contributed six points to the Lady Cougars’ winning effort. Reagan Davis, Aleah Woodson, and Preslee Chapman all tallied two points apiece, and Destiny Rutherford scored a point.
With the win, the Lady Cougars advance to the semifinals of the district 3-AAAA tournament to face the Karns Beavers, a team which Campbell defeated at Brown Court last Friday, 56-45. Tuesday night’s win guarantees Campbell a spot in the Region 2 tournament no matter how the district tourney plays out.
