LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – La Follette Police Officer Dillon Marney was on routine patrol late Sunday night when he watched an eastbound GMC Yukon allegedly fail to maintain its lane, repeatedly swerve and cross the fog line and center dotted line.

Just after 10:30pm, Officer Marney conducted a traffic stop on the GMC on the shoulder in front of Walgreens. The driver, 49-year old Travis Hudgins, kept trying to exit the SUV and the officer told him multiple times to stay inside, and Hudgins did.

Dialated pupils, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcoholic beverages of Hudgins were allegedly observed by Officer Marney. Hudgins admitted to the officer that he had had a few drinks, according to the report.

It was learned that Hudgin’s drivers license had been revoked due to an interlocking device. Sergeant Tim Collingsworth arrived on the scene and observed something was unplugged. The sergeant asked if the interlock device was unplugged, and Hudgin allegedly stated it was, based on the police report.

Officer Marney assessed that Hudgin performed poorly on a field sobriety test. Hudgin refused Officer Marney’s request for a blood sample. A search warrant was issued, and a blood sample was taken. Seven containers of alcoholic beverages were located in the GMC; one can was allegedly totally empty.

Hudgins remains housed in the Campbell County Jail on a ??? bond and is charged with DUI (3rd offense), violation of the implied consent law and driving on a revoked license. He is due in court on June 18. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/04/2024-6AM)
