LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – We’ve all had that teacher who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute one of our hard working educators with a weekly feature. Teachers make a difference in their students lives each and every day. For many students, having a teacher who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation.
This week’s featured teacher is Kristy Hoskins. She teaches English Language Arts at LaFollette Middle School and has been in an education career for 23 years.

Hoskins is from Speedwell and attended Valley View Elementary School, LaFollette Middle School, and Campbell County High School.
She earned her BS K-8 Education from Tusculum, then attended the University of the Cumberlands for her Master’s Reading Specialist, and South College for Ed.S Curriculum Instruction and Leadership. Hoskins is currently attending MTSU for a Master’s Library Science and Media degree.
When she’s not teaching her hobbies include cooking, reading, music, and travel.

Hoskins teaches English at LaFollette Middle School. She has been a teacher for 11 years and prior to that worked as a teaching assistant for 12 years.
According to Hoskins, “the teacher who inspired her career the most would definitely be Mrs. Janice Craig.”
“She is the finest teacher there is and an example that I strive to live up to,” Hoskins said.
She was also inspired by her experiences as a teaching assistant to follow the career further and become a teacher herself.
“I was a Pre-K assistant with Mrs. Rebecca Mongar Collette, and I just fell in love with the possibilities this job offers. I believe so deeply in what I do and the changes a teacher can make. I went back to school and got my degree and haven’t looked back or regretted it for a moment,” Hoskins said.

Her favorite part of the job is “helping students find “their” book, the one that makes you fall in love with reading and helping them realize the power of the written word.”
Hoskins said where she works is another favorite for her.
“I love my job and my school. The staff at LMS are all inspirations to me. We are blessed with the best administration and staff there is. I could not be more blessed to call it my home.”
