Blue Devils defeat Coalfield on Tuesday at Charles Lindsay-Dino Oakes Gymnasium

It was a fun time had by all on Tuesday night at Jellico High.

JELLICO, TN (WLAF)- An impressive first half stood up for Jellico as the Blue Devils, behind three double figure scorers, defeated visiting Coalfield 70 to 64 on Tuesday night in the opening round of the District 3, 1-A, basketball tournament.

Trey Vann’s 21 points led the way for the Blue and White while Macoy Johnson had 16 followed by 15 from Gavin Dabney. Brayden Teague added nine points with Seth Brandenburg chipping in seven points. Dakota Marlow tallied two points.

Jellico was ahead 19 to 11 after one quarter and 39 to 24 at the half after outscoring Coalfield 20 to 13 in the second period. The Yellow Jackets posted a 21 point third quarter to the Blue Devils 15 point quarter to chop down Jellico’s lead to 54 to 45. Though Coalfield scored 19 of the fourth quarter’s 35 points, Jellico kept the Yellow Jackets at bay for a 70-64 win.

Jellico improves to 15 & 13. The Blue Devils finished the district regular season at 5 & 5.

The win advances Jellico to Friday night’s semi-finals to be played at Roane State Community College’s Gym at Harriman. Jellico faces the top seeded Oneida Indians in a 6:30pm start.

The victory also qualifies Jellico for a spot in the Region 2, 1-A, Tournament. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-02/18/2026-6AM)
