Funding for park and recreation approved

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The Joint Economic Community Development Board held a meeting on Thursday evening at the LUB conference room.
Main agenda items included approving Rhonda Longmire as a new board member, along with a funding request from the City of LaFollette.
Longmire, who is the Market President for Community Trust Bank was recommended to fill the board position which was vacated by John Branam who has moved to Alabama.
“She’s had a career in banking and finance. She’s involved in the chamber, in Rotary, on the industrial development board and she’s involved in this community,” Willoughby said recommending her.

Longmire’s appointment to the JECDB was approved unanimously.
Willoughby also asked the board how they felt about providing plaques for individuals that serve on the JECDB upon their retirement, starting with Branam.
“He (John Branam) served on this board in the past and served this board well. He has made a lot of contributions to this county, and we appreciate his service. This board has made a lot of contributions to the county, and I think those that have served on this board should get a plaque or something,” Willoughby said. Other board members agreed.
Also approved was a request from the City of LaFollette for $1,000 for the repair of the downtown clock at Central and First Street. The request was made by LaFollette City Administrator Stan Foust.
“They are wanting to repair that thing,” LaFollette Mayor Cliff Jennings confirmed.
JECDB member Joe Carroll made a motion to give each city in Campbell County $1,000 for parks and recreation funding. This was approved unanimous and will include all five municipalities in the county: Jellico, Jacksboro, LaFollette, Rocky Top and Caryville. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/10/2024-6AM)
