LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- County Mayor Jack Lynch brought up a fire department issue during Thursday’s Joint Economic Community Development Board meeting and requested funds for the Ridgewood Fire Department.

“We have a special need, the Ridgewood Fire Department had dissipated to nothing, and it’s now made a comeback, but they have a real need for some basic equipment that really you can’t fight fires without,” Lynch said.

According to Lynch, the county is going to try to do a grant in the spring for turnout gear for the fire department.

“Right now, they are in need of air packs desperately. They need four more so they can handle a basic fire. They are expensive and cost around $1,200 each. We’re going to give two used air packs out of the county. We need about $5,000 and we’ve been trying to beat the bushes to raise the funds and help,” Lynch said.

Board members unanimously approved the $5,000 donation to the fire department.

According to Lynch, Ridgewood Volunteer Fire Department serves around 6,000 people, as well as responds to fires on the interstate.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/09/2024-6AM)
